Gilbert Park Going Places (GPGP) is the place for youth to be!

DETAILS:

All programs are free and we offer a snack at each visit. See a detailed list of programs below.

Eligibility: Programming is open to Gilbert Park area youth in Grades 4-8

Time and Location: Our doors are open six days a week, 12 months a year.

During the school year:
Monday to Friday, 3:30 -7:00 pm
Saturday 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Summer Holidays (Also School Inservice Days)
Monday to Saturday,  11:00 am – 5:00 pm

 


Programs offered through GPGP include:

Healthy Relationships: Gain skills to have healthier relationships in every aspect of your life.  Learn about healthy communication, boundaries, how to respond to peer pressure and more, though discussion and group activities.

Careers for Kids: Each month we visit an interesting workplace, and interview people about their cool jobs! Let our staff know who you’d like to meet. We’ve met engineers, DJs, firefighters, investors, filmmakers, and more- we’re looking forward to meeting lawyers, writers, and actors.

Film Club: Learn media production skills through hands on experience making a variety of different types of films from start to finish.  Participants gain experience writing, making sets/props, acting, shooting and editing.  Participate in workshops lead by industry professionals and enter your films in contests.

Kids in the Kitchen: Learn to cook healthy meals and gain skills in kitchen and food safety. After the cooking, enjoy your creations with friends.  This program takes place at NorWest’s Community Food Centre.

Drop in counselling: Just need to talk? Drop in counselling is available anytime during program hours.

Beading: Learn indigenous beading through fun projects like necklaces, dream catchers, earrings and more.

Boys & Girls Groups:  Our Boys group and Girls group do a variety of fun and skill building activates.  Join us for PJ parties, baking, field trips, music programs and more!

Homework Help/Literacy:  Get help with your school work or pick up a new book to read.

Peer Mentor Program: Peer mentors is a 15 week hands-on course that teaches youth how to be leaders in their community. Incentives are provided and everyone who graduates from the program will have the opportunity to volunteer. It is a great way to get involved in the community and start gaining valuable job training and skills.

GPGP also offers a variety of non-formal activities including Xbox, computer skills, gym, art, bike rides, books, movies, sports, homework help and field trips.
