International Transgender Day of Visibility

Today is the International Transgender Day of Visibility, which takes place every year on March 31st!

This day is dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to our society. This day was founded in 2009 by Rachel Crandall, a licensed psychotherapist specializing in transgender issues. The purpose of International Transgender Day of Visibility is to recognize the accomplishments of transgender and gender non-conforming people as well as bring attention to their continued struggles.

Transgender is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity or expression is different from those typically associated with the sex assigned to them at birth (e.g., the sex listed on their birth certificate).
