Youth Employment Supports for Success: YESS
The YESS program is a fully paid 20-week program giving youth aged 16-30 the opportunity to gain the skills and experience to thrive in today’s workforce.
The program covers all aspects of employability and supports developing life skills to set participants up for continued employment, education on training beyond the 20 weeks.
The first 8 weeks are spent at NorWest on Notre Dame doing employment skills training that is facilitated by various NorWest staff and partner agencies. Topics covered include: resume and cover letter writing; interview prep; communication and conflict skills; managing stress at work; financial empowerment and more. There is the chance to meet employers, learn about future education or training possibilities and connect with multiple service providers to help achieve success.
The final 12 weeks sees participants hired by an employer in a relevant field to their interests or skills and given the chance to put all they have learned into practice.
All hours attended are paid at minimum wage; 25hrs per week during training and 35hrs per week on the work placement.
